01 Jun-05 DNAPL Defeated at Camp Lejeune!

A series of post-project sampling has confirmed that CES effectively removed the source of a major dissolved plume of 1,1,2,2, Tetrachloroethane (TeCA) and Trichloroethylene (TCE) at Camp Lejeune, NC.

01 Feb-05 First Application of ERH on an MGP Site
CES was awarded a multi-million dollar contract for Electrical Resistance Heating (ERH) remediation of a manufactured gas plant (MGP).  This is the first ever ERH application at an MGP site.

01 Feb-05 Excellence in Safety Management
Going in to the year 2005, CES has logged it’s 4th Consecutive year of Perfect Safety with OSHA.  Since new management assumed leadership in 2000, Neither CES or it’s project subcontractors have had one recordable incident.  This is the result of increased safety training and the utmost care that safe work practices are adhered to.  Keep up the good work, guys!

21 Dec-04 In Situ Corona® Trademark Registered

Following the official comment period by the US Patent and Trademark Office, and no challanges by third parties, IN-SITU CORONA® becomes a registered Trademark of CES.  US Registration 2,905,628  More about IN-SITU CORONA®


22 Apr-04 EPA Awards Superfund Cleanup Bid

Cleanup began in Feb '05 at a former dry cleaners in W3est Fargo, North Dakota.  The site is currently above 90 °C.  More news will be available soon.

01 Feb-04 CES Moves Into New Facility
Current Environmental Solutions has completed the move of its Eastern Washington offices to a new, larger facility. The move came in response to increasing demand for production of CES's state of the art ERH Power Supply Units. The new facility includes a process engineering laboratory, equipment production shop, and engineering offices. The new facility is located at: 419 W. CES provided Electrical Resistive Heating for DNAPL Remediation at the Silresim Superfund site in Massachusetts. Electrode performance was stellar, with no signs of power coupling degradation and the system removed over twice the estimated mass in place.

CES has recently completed a large Electrical Resistive Heating pilot remediation study at a confidential site in Georgia. 40,000 pounds of contamination were removed in just 4 months of operations. Dissolved phase benzene concentrations exceeded the study objectives by a factor of four, when they were lowered to an maximum of 100 ppb.

In a side-by-side comparison of highest rated DNAPL technologies, Six-Phase Heating outperforms Steam Injection and KMNO3 injection for almost half the cost.  EPA has issued a Tech Trends project summary and plans to issue final report in early 2005.

CES used Six Phase Heating to tackle a large site containing TCE DNAPL.  A letter from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality states "We are very encouraged at the apparent success of this technology in addressing what is typically a highly intractable problem."  The letter goes on to say "The performance monitoring data suggest that contaminant concentrations are below EPA drinking water maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) at most of the monitoring points.

01 Sep-99 Six Phase Heating Supports Expedited Property Transfer

Six-Phase Heating was used to support an expedited property transfer at a former Dry Cleaners near Seattle, WA.  Remediation operations were concluded after 90 days after a  99.7% cleanup had been achieved and PCE, TCE, and cis 1,2 DCE concentrations were below Maximum Contaminant Levels of 5, 5, and 70 ppb, respectively.

Overall, this treatability study found that soil heating is cost-effective when remediating compounds with low volatility and where biodegradation is the primary treatment mechanism. Additionally, six-phase heating was found to be more cost-effective than radio frequency heating in large areas due to its lower equipment costs and ability to treat a larger area at one time.

After four quarters of post-remediation monitoring with no rebound, the State of Illinois issued a letter of No Further Action today.  This is an unprecedented success for the new Six-Phase Heating technology which is emerging as possibly the most promising technology for sites containing DNAPL or LNAPL in tight or complex soil lithologies.

Current Environmental Solutions has been formed jointly by Battelle and Terra Vac to provide the new Six Phase Soil Heating technology.  The technology, developed by Battelle at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for the US DOE, extends the applicability of Terra Vac's Soil Vapor Extraction technology.  It has been demonstrated at several sites and is ready for commercial deployment.
